Gujarat Riot Victims will Not get Justice Under Modi: Zakia

Washington, Dec 5 (PTI): Victims of the Gujarat riots will not get any justice if Narendra Modi becomes India's Prime Minister, the wife of a former MP killed by a violent mob in Ahmedabad a decade ago told US lawmakers, urging the Obama administration to continue denying visa to the Chief Minister.

"If he (Modi) succeeds to become the Prime Minister, my hopes for justice, along with the hopes of hundreds of thousands of Gujarat victims will be lost. I hope and pray that never happens," Zakia Jafri, wife of the former MP, Ahsan Jafri, said at the Capitol Hill yesterday.

"Your denial to change his (Modi's) persona non grata status is very vital to keep my hopes alive," Jafri said in her statement which was read out by her son-in-law Najid Hussain, while she was standing by his side.

Speaking on behalf of the Gujarat riot victims, Zakia and her daughter Nishrin Hussain urged both the US lawmakers and the Obama Administration not to grant Modi a US visa.
"I know in my heart, Chief Minister Narendra Modi is responsible for the killing of my husband. I know when my husband asked for help he was told, 'Jafri you are on your own. Save yourself if you can'," she said.

"I also know Indian justice system may be slow, but it is robust. Had Chief Minister Modi resigned, or was removed from the office... the wheels of justice would have moved freely and swiftly.

"But instead of leaving the office, he doubled up on his grip on power and has done everything to obstruct and deny justice to the victims like myself," Jafri alleged.
Recounting the tragic hours of the day when her father was killed by the violent mob, Nishrin Hussain, who now is a US citizen, said, "I applaud the initiative of the Congresspersons in ensuring that the ban on Mr Modi's visa continues to stay in place."
"Maintaining the longstanding US policy on Narendra Modi's visa is important for the ongoing struggle for justice in Gujarat," she said.

Speaking on behalf of Coalition Against Genocide, Hyder Khan, said the recent conviction of a sitting member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, Mayaben Kodnani and indictment of Gujarat Minister Amit Shah, is actually a damning indictment of the Modi administration.
"Barring a handful of convictions, the hundreds of perpetrators who roamed the streets of Gujarat in February and March of 2002, killing, raping and destroying property continue to evade the law," Khan alleged.

Shaik Ubaid, one of the founders of the coalition said, "The revocation of Modi's visa by the US is the biggest impediment in Modi's grandiose plans for himself including becoming the prime minister of India".

Robert: Unlike Dr Kamaths comments My comments are not justifying any of the riots, be it the Gujarat riot or the Mumbai one.. In both cases Its crime against humanity and needs to be dealt appropriately.
From your comments, looks like you too may be from the same band wagon as Dr Kamath. Remember, its easy to sit and comment from your desk unlike the victims who suffered the carnage, If there is a streak of humanity left in you, then you would also think otherwise.

As for my so called thesis, Well its for humanity and not for any political/religious community. Try to be a human first and then whatever you claim to be.

You need two hands to clap, and this blame game will never end because it all depends on who is telling the story and from when does the story start i.e do we start from when the Kar sevaks were burnt? Or do we start from why and before they were burnt? Or do we start was what happened after they were burnt? Or what was the retaliation (in terms of bombs blasting on trains) in Mumbai… and this story will never end as it has been going on for several hundreds of years.

No one can condone terrorism in any way shape or form, and if there needs to be genuine and lasting peace then the onus is on each and every one of us to learn to love rather than hate. It starts with just a handful of miscreants to ignite trouble and then there is always a tit or tat response.

Sadly, there is no end in sight as this fight lies dormant for some years and it ignites again and everything starts all over again, and that is why it is said a tooth for a tooth and an eye for an eye made the whole world blind.

    Dear Mr. SURESH MAROLI, MANGALORE/BAHRAIN,
I quote: BUT WHY THE PROBLEM STARTED. WHY THE MOB BURNT ALIVE INNOCENT KARSEWAKS? Unquote.

You have to investigate why the mob burnt the train and the kaarsevaks were burnt. Investigate and come back to me. If you do not know i will ask once again.

Secondly, An aspiring prime ministerial candidate should have a clean image before his family and society.
Modi’s hands are soaked in violence and blood. He couldn't sustain his own family and how he can sustain the state. Haam concerning the developments does not the evil also show goodness???!!! Of course if the evil wanted to stay on its course otherwise people will make him thooooo on its face. However the evils goodness will not last long and only for a short term.

See Late Pramod Mahajan. He was speaking well in the media and all is good when he was in the BJP. Once his own brother shot him everything was known to public. Horage shrngaara olage golisoppu. Out side India shining inside dark.

Dr S Kamath: If a Dr is who you claim to be , then i would expect the education you have had to help better judge and comment..

A crime is a crime, it cannot be a Tit for Tat. You trying to justify the Gujarat atrocities and evasion of justice by comparing the Mumbai riots is deeming of your qualification.

Justice will prevail on Mumbai riots and will also on the Gujarat riots..

Dear sister Zakaria, my heartfelt sympathies are with you always. I can understand your feelings and pain. Do not worry. Your tears won't go waste. No one.... I mean no one can escape the judgement of almighty. Now the Modi shines because almighty is giving him time to repent, but, he does not. Wait & see the fate of Modi, ofcourse if he doesn't apologise whole heartedly to the victims families and to almighty God. Was not Saddam, Bin Laden, Khaddafi, Hosni Mubarak were powerful ? Who is this 'machchar' compared to them ? Simply a particle of dust. Have courage, faith & patience dear sister Zakia.

If Modi becomes Prime Minister of India, India will become Afghanistan & we have to follow Talibani culture.

Shame on BJP for projecting Modi as next Prime Minister, when most of the nations are giving negetive view on him.

As per BJP, Modi has developed Gujrat a lot... But the fact is, most of the business personalities in India hails from Gujrat & because of their revenue, state had some developments. It's not because of Modi. He is just a 'Good Political Salesman' or 'Excellent Political Marketing utive'

God is almighty and impartial. He surely rewards your good deeds and punishes your deliberate bad deeds not in heaven or hell but on this very earth. The same thing is bound to happen to Modi whether in political life or in personal life sooner than later. Just wait and watch, time is the best judge.
