Yerawada Once Held Mahatma Gandhi


Pune, Nov 21 (IANS): The Yerawada Central Jail, where Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Amir Kasab was hanged Wednesday, is where Mahatma Gandhi spent many years during the fight against British rule.

The largest jail in Maharashtra, Gandhi signed the famous Poona Pact in its premises on Sep 24, 1932.

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt was also jailed here. And former underworld don Arun Gawli began his political career while in this jail.
