IMF Chief to Attend G20 Meet in Mexico


Washington, Nov 2 (IANS): The International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief, Christine Lagarde, will attend the Group of Twenty (G20) meet to be held on the weekend in Mexico, Xinhua reported.

Mexico, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the group, will host the meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors of the G20 countries between Nov 4 and 5 in its capital Mexico City.

Speaking during a routine press briefing, IMF chief's spokesperson Gerry Rice said IMF Managing Director Lagarde and the institution's first deputy managing director David Lipton will be in Mexico City this weekend.

During her meetings with finance ministers and central bank governors of the G20 countries, Lagarde will discuss ways to reduce economic uncertainties and bolster global growth.

The G20 group comprises Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, Britain, the US as well as the European Union.

Rice said Lagarde's main message will be in line with the theme of the annual meetings of the IMF and World Bank held last month in Tokyo.
