Man Behind Anti-Islam Film Jailed

Washington, Sep 28 (PTI): A California man behind an anti-Islam film that has sparked violent protests across the Muslim world has been jailed without bail by a US court for violating terms of his probation on a bank fraud conviction.

55-year-old Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, the producer of the controversial movie, was arrested by the California police yesterday and soon produced before a court in Los Angeles.

"He engaged in a likely pattern of deception both to his probation officers and the court," Judge Suzanne Segal said in her ruling, adding that he was a flight risk
Nakoula, who according to federal investigators, has changed his name several times, under the terms of probation, was banned from using computers and the Internet without supervision.

According to his attorney Steve Seiden, Nakoula has maintained contacts in person and by phone with probation officers and argued that the movie maker would not be safe in the jail fearing that the anti-Islam film would make him a target of fellow inmates.

However, US Attorney Robert Dugdale argued that Nakoula had engaged in a "pattern of deception" and is a person who cannot be trusted.

"He poses a flight risk and poses a danger to others," Dugdale said.

Nakoula was earlier arrested in 2009 on charges of being engaged in a scheme to create fake identities and open credit cards in those names, then draw tens of thousands of dollars from the phony accounts.

He was released in June 2011.

Earlier this month he was interviewed by federal authorities after his film sparked widespread protests in the Middle East and North African countries.

I do not agree with you for two raisons:1-muslims do not insult other's belief, they always believe on Christ resurrection.2 when a black person call another black person a"NIGGER" it does not sound insulting but when a white man call a black man a nigger you can imagine what would happen....I do not agree with what those fanatic muslims did and I do not like what those fanatic christians start.

    Bulsam, Mangalore.
Quote " Nobody has the right to insult one's religion or hurt believers of religion" Unquote

Christians all over the world live on the promises of Christ, his death on the cross, his rising from the dead are the most important date of the World’s 2 billion Christians. But I am deeply hurt and insulted too when my faith is ridiculed and when I am told that Christ did not die on cross, there was no resurrection, so no one is saved and hence there is no such a thing as Easter. The greatest belief of all Christians has just be made are null and void.

Using you own arguments now imagine the commotion and turmoil in the whole world when Christians who are offended and their sentiments hurt because their faith is dismissed, as “figments of their imagination” are they are now demanding that all those who hurt them should be tried at that same “International Court of Justice”. So each and everyone who hurts us by saying and believing things other than what we believe are all to be punished severely, do you really want that to happen?

We live in a democratic world and each and everyone including you and me have freedom of speech and freedom of speech and the freedom to believe and so though your belief does hurt me you are forgiven (and I am not even asking for an apology). So let’s move on with our lives and you continue to believe what you want to believe and we believe what we want to. The main point is you need to understand, accept and tolerate others beliefs, just as others are tolerant of your belief though it hurts us. So in essence we all agree to disagree and then you go your way and I go mine.

Secondly, the Internet and cell phone have reached all corners of the world. Anyone today who has a cell phone can made a video, hit the send button and when it goes to U-tube it is instantly published all over world. How can you stop anyone for doing that? It will happen again and again the more you protest the more the incitement. If you cannot and do not want to change then how can you expect that from others? It is time that you learn to live with people of diverse beliefs and customs, forgive them though they hurt you and move on with your lives as if nothing happened, just as the 2 billion Christians ignore what you believe and your hurtful beliefs on my religion.

About 80% or more of the world population believes in some God or Religion and the major religions of the world are:
    1. Christianity: 2.1 billion
    2. Islam: 1.5 billion
    3. Secular/Nonreligious/Agnostic/Atheist: 1.1 billion
    4. Hinduism: 900 million
    5. Chinese traditional religion: 394 million
    6. Buddhism: 376 million
    7. primal-indigenous: 300 million
    8. African Traditional & Diasporic: 100 million
    9. Sikhism: 23 million
    10. Juche: 19 million
    11. Spiritism: 15 million
    12. Judaism: 14 million
    13. Baha'i: 7 million
    14. Jainism: 4.2 million
    15. Shinto: 4 million
    16. Cao Dai: 4 million
    17. Zoroastrianism: 2.6 million
    18. Tenrikyo: 2 million
    19. Neo-Paganism: 1 million
    20. Unitarian-Universalism: 800 thousand
    21. Rastafarianism: 600 thousand
    22. Scientology: 500 thousand
Hence nobody has the right to insult one’s religion or hurt the believers of religion. The UN and the world should look into this serious matter and introduce in the “International Court of Justice” a bill to severely punish such sadists. The nations of the world should accept the verdict of the world’s highest court and prosecute the accused in the country of domicile or refuge, accordingly.
