Gunman Kills Five in New York, Shot Dead


New York, Aug 24 (IANS): A gunman Friday shot dead at least five people in front of the Empire State Building in New York, but was later killed by police, CNN reported.

Police converged on the building around 9 a.m. after reports of gunfire.

ABC News said the shooting happened at Fifth Avenue and West 34th Street.

The fire department received a call about the shooting just after 9 a.m. and emergency units were on the scene within minutes, a spokesman said.

Police said at least five people were killed and three or four other civilians were wounded.
