US State Faces Doctor, Nurse Shortages

Washington, Jul 2 (IANS): The US state of Texas will need 71,000 more nurses and 39,000 additional family physicians by 2020.

The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that President Barack Obama's healthcare overhaul, including its "individual mandate" requirement that most Americans obtain health insurance by 2014 or face a penalty, is constitutional.

The law, which reaches full strength in 2019, shifts the healthcare focus toward prevention, making primary-care workers even more important as it highlights workforce deficiencies, Xinhua Sunday quoted the Fort Worth Star-Telegram newspaper as saying.
