Baina flyover to get crash barriers, AI cameras to improve road safety

Vasco, Oct 7: Authorities have proposed a series of road safety measures at the accident-prone Baina flyover following a recent fatal accident that claimed two lives.

Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar visited the accident site along with NHAI officials, representatives of Gammon India, SP Traffic, the Mamlatdar and police officials to assess the situation and discuss measures to prevent similar accidents.

Salkar said crash barriers would be installed on priority at the flyover to strengthen safety infrastructure. AI-enabled cameras will also be introduced to monitor traffic movement and help identify dangerous driving and speeding.

Rumble strips and blinkers are also planned along the stretch to alert motorists and encourage them to reduce speed while negotiating the flyover.

The recent series of accidents in the Vasco area has raised concerns over speeding and road-user behaviour, particularly at stretches where motorists tend to pick up speed.

Salkar appealed to motorists to avoid speeding, follow traffic rules and drive responsibly, stressing that road safety was a shared responsibility.

The proposed measures are aimed at reducing the risk of accidents and making the Baina flyover safer for motorists and other road users.
