Udhampur, Sep 17: Two suspected terrorists, believed to be affiliated with Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), were killed in a late-night operation by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district on Wednesday, September 16. Their identities are being ascertained.

Security forces launched a major cordon and search operation in the Sohan area following intelligence inputs about the suspicious movement of individuals in the region. The operation led to a heavy exchange of fire between the security personnel and the suspected terrorists.

During searches in the early hours of Thursday, security forces recovered the bodies of two suspected foreign terrorists, believed to be linked to JeM. Arms and ammunition were also seized from their possession.

The joint operation was led by the Rashtriya Rifles, Para (Special Forces) and Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The latest encounter comes days after a Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander was killed in a gunfight with security forces in the Yousmarg area of central Kashmir's Budgam district on September 5.

The slain terrorist, identified as Yasir, was reportedly associated with the larger Sulaiman Musa group of LeT before splitting from it nearly a year ago and operating independently.

Security agencies had been tracking his movements and monitoring his activities in the Yousmarg area for some time.
