Mangaluru, Aug 28: Milagres College Mangalore, in association with the Konkani Vibhag, celebrated Konkani Manyatha Divas on August 27, 2026, in the college Auditorium. The programme was organised to commemorate the recognition of the Konkani language and to create awareness among students about the rich history, culture and literary heritage of Konkani.
The programme began with a prayer song, seeking the blessings of God, followed by the inauguration ceremony. The Konkani flag was hoisted by H M Pernal, a well-known Konkani writer, poet and journalist, who was the guest of honour.
The dignitaries present on the dais included Fr Ivan Michael Rodrigues, correspondent of Milagres Educational Institutions; Rev Dr Alwin Serrao, principal of Milagres College; Glencia Fernandes, vice principal; Pramila Mascarenhas, coordinator of the Konkani Vibhag; Chethana Kumari, IQAC coordinator; Prajwal, president of the Konkani Vibhag; and Janice, secretary of the Konkani Vibhag. The inauguration was followed by the singing of the Konkani Anthem.
The highlight of the programme was the felicitation of H M Pernal for his valuable achievements and contributions to Konkani literature. Addressing the gathering, H M Pernal spoke about the history of the Konkani language. He explained the development and journey of Konkani through the years and highlighted the importance of preserving the language, culture and traditions for future generations.
Following this, Fr Ivan Michael Rodrigues, correspondent of Milagres Educational Institutions, addressed the gathering. In his speech, he appreciated the efforts of the Konkani Vibhag in organising the celebration and encouraged students to value and promote the Konkani language and its cultural heritage.
Following the formal programme, a cultural programme was organised. Students enthusiastically participated in various cultural performances, adding colour and vibrancy to the celebration. A total of 120 students were present and actively participated in the event.
The celebration provided an excellent opportunity for students to understand the significance of Konkani Manyatha Divas and appreciate the language’s rich cultural and literary heritage. The programme concluded with the National Anthem, marking the successful completion of a memorable and meaningful celebration.
