Moodabidri, Aug 28: Mangalore Institute of Technology & Engineering (MITE), Moodabidri, successfully conducted SEMICON 2026, themed “Powering the Next Wave of Innovation through Semiconductors,” on August 28, bringing together industry experts, academicians, researchers, technical ambassadors, and students on a common platform to explore the rapidly evolving semiconductor ecosystem and India’s emerging opportunities in the sector. The event was graced by Rajesh Chouta, chairman, MITE; Rajalaxmi Chouta, governing council member, MITE; Dr Prashanth C M, principal, MITE; and Dr Vinayambika S Bhat, convenor, SEMICON 2026.
The semiconductor industry has emerged as a cornerstone of technological transformation, driving advancements across artificial intelligence, automotive electronics, communication systems, healthcare, consumer electronics, and advanced manufacturing. With India increasingly focusing on semiconductor design, fabrication, packaging, and talent development, SEMICON 2026 highlighted the critical role of academia in nurturing a skilled, innovative, and industry-ready workforce.

SEMICON 2026 featured two expert panel discussions, along with interactive masterclasses, networking opportunities, and roundtable sessions aimed at fostering knowledge exchange between industry and academia.
Session 1: "The Importance of SEMICON: India's Semiconductor Moment" Moderated by Jackson Johnson, director – Global Talent Acquisition, Silicon Labs, Hyderabad, this session brought together:
• Muthukumaran Subramaniyan, talent acquisition lead, Tata Electronics, Bengaluru
• Manjula Sahadeva, senior manager, Alpha wave Semi, Bengaluru
• Chandra Shekar, HR leader, Marvell Semiconductor, Hyderabad
• Venu Sirigiri, senior manager - talent acquisition, Analog Devices Bengaluru
Session 2: "Building India's Semiconductor Ecosystem" Moderated by, Padma Priya P, Director – Human Resources, Blaize, Hyderabad, this session featured:
• Sonali Banerjee, country HR manager, Nordic Semiconductor ASA, Hyderabad
• Udhaya Shankar, manager – talent acquisition, Microchip Technology, Bengaluru
• Vidya Shinde, HR lead, d-Matrix, Bengaluru

These sessions provided participants with opportunities for knowledge exchange, experiential learning, and professional engagement.
SEMICON 2026 brought together industry leaders, academicians, students, and researchers to strengthen industry-academia collaboration and explore emerging opportunities in semiconductor technology. The event fostered creativity, encouraged meaningful collaboration, and provided valuable insights into the evolving semiconductor landscape. By connecting diverse stakeholders from across the ecosystem, SEMICON 2026 contributed to building stronger foundations for the long-term growth of India’s semiconductor industry.
MITE, established in 2007 by Rajalaxmi Education Trust, Mangaluru, is an autonomous institution affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, and accredited by NAAC with an A+ Grade. The institution offers 10 undergraduate engineering programmes, 3 postgraduate programmes, and 8 VTU-recognized research centres, with a student strength of more than 4,500.
