New Delhi, Aug 10: Six Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs were marshalled out of the Delhi Assembly on Monday after Speaker Vijender Gupta objected to the T-shirts they were wearing during the second day of the Monsoon Session.

The MLAs — Sanjeev Jha, Jarnail Singh, Kuldeep Kumar, Prem Kumar, Som Dutt and Ajay Dutt — were asked to remove the “objectionable” T-shirts but refused, following which they were removed from the House.

The AAP legislators had been raising slogans over an alleged bicycle procurement scam under the BJP-led Delhi government. The party has alleged that bicycles distributed to girl students under the Vidya Vahini scheme were purchased at inflated prices.

Speaker Gupta said the opposition was disrupting the discussion on issues of public interest and that parliamentary rules did not permit the use of unparliamentary language in the House.

“The rules clearly state that unparliamentary language will not be tolerated in the House; this is not acceptable,” Gupta said.

The action led to a fresh confrontation between the ruling BJP and the AAP during the ongoing Assembly session. The AAP has continued to demand a discussion into the alleged bicycle procurement irregularities, while the government has rejected the allegations.
