Dhyan Sreenivasan's jokes on Vijay, Trisha go viral at film event

Kochi, Jul 16: Malayalam actor Dhyan Sreenivasan left the audience in laughter during a promotional event for his upcoming film Visitor, with his humorous remarks about Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay and actor Trisha Krishnan quickly going viral on social media.

During his speech, Dhyan said he had recently been focusing more on stage shows and advertisements than films before joking that he had decided to follow Vijay's example after the latter became Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

He then brought actor Aju Varghese into the act, saying the latter had advised him to first become president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) before aspiring to become Kerala Chief Minister.

"He also said I could become Chief Minister later after doing charity work and impressing people," Dhyan joked.

"He called again and told me not to get involved with AMMA because there were huge issues going on. He said I shouldn't become either the AMMA president or the Chief Minister. The ideal job for me would be Governor because there wouldn't be much work," he added, drawing loud laughter from the audience.

Taking the stage later, Aju Varghese apologised to Vijay in a light-hearted manner for his colleague's comments.

"Well, one thing is clear now. I can no longer step into Tamil Nadu. So, my dear CM sir, Vijay sir. What is the Tamil word for friend? My nanban has gone mad. I am helpless. Please forgive me," he said.

Dhyan also joked with his Visitor co-star Navya Nair, saying he hoped she would attend his swearing-in ceremony if he ever became Kerala Chief Minister.

"We are coming together for a film after a long time. Navya is married and has a son now. Even so, when I become the CM and take oath, I hope Navya will be sitting in the front row wearing a saree, with tears in her eyes," he said.

Navya joined in the banter, replying, "Don't worry, Dhyan. When you become CM, as you wished, I'll wear a white saree with a green border and a diamond necklace, sit in the front row with tears in my eyes, and cheer you with victory slogans. Won't you arrange a seat for me in the front row?"

Videos of the exchange have since gone viral online.

Vijay and Trisha have remained the subject of public speculation since reports emerged in February claiming that Vijay's wife, Sangeeta Sornalingam, had filed for divorce. The speculation intensified after Vijay and Trisha attended a wedding together in March wearing coordinated outfits, and later when Trisha was seen seated in the front row alongside Vijay's parents during his swearing-in ceremony as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
