Bengaluru, Jul 13: Alliance University, in association with Tulu World Foundation and Tuluvere Chavadi, Tenkai Bommasandra, organised a Tulu Yakshagana Workshop and cultural performance to introduce students to the rich heritage, cultural significance, and artistic brilliance of Tulu Yakshagana, one of the most treasured folk theatre traditions of the Tulu region.
The workshop featured engaging sessions by eminent scholars and cultural experts, who interacted with students on the history, evolution, and importance of Tulu culture, folklore, and Yakshagana. The speakers emphasised the need to preserve and promote the rich legacy of the Tulu language, literature, and performing arts, while inspiring younger generations to appreciate and carry forward this vibrant cultural tradition.






The programme was graced by Dr Chinnappa Gowda, former vice-chancellor of Karnataka Janapada University; Dr Purushottama Bilimale, chairman of the Kannada Development Authority; renowned scholar Prof Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli; Dr A M Sreedharan; and Dr Shruthy Chandrashekar from Alliance University.
Addressing the students, the dignitaries highlighted the cultural, educational, and social relevance of Yakshagana and its enduring contribution to India's folk heritage.
Following the workshop, acclaimed Tulu Yakshagana artistes from Mangaluru enthralled the audience with a spectacular performance of the popular Tulu Yakshagana prasanga, "Siri Krishne Chandapali." The performance, marked by vibrant costumes, graceful dance, expressive acting, and traditional music, captivated students, faculty members, and invited guests, earning widespread appreciation from the audience.
Alliance University continues to reaffirm its commitment to preserving and promoting India's diverse cultural heritage by organising such enriching programmes. The event reflected the University's dedication to fostering greater awareness, appreciation, and respect for India's traditional folk arts among the younger generation.
