Bantwal, Jul 11: The National Lok Adalat held at the Bantwal Senior Civil Court premises on Saturday successfully settled a large number of civil, criminal and other compoundable cases through mutual agreement, recording settlements and recoveries worth over Rs 4.49 crore.
According to court officials, 19 civil cases were resolved with a settlement amount of Rs 49,48,941, while 257 criminal cases were disposed of, resulting in the collection of Rs 13,00,124 towards fines and other payments.



A major share of the settlements came from 42,322 pre-litigation cases, which were resolved with a total settlement and recovery amount of Rs 3,86,26,969.
The court stated that the National Lok Adalat aims to ensure speedy disposal of cases where compromise is possible while reducing the burden of pending cases on courts.
Senior civil judge Anil Prakash M P, principal civil judge Rajendra K S, additional civil judge Soundarya M, Bantwal Advocates’ Association president Richard Costa M, assistant government pleaders Harini Kumari D and Saraswati, additional government advocate B Venkataramana Shenoy, court staff, advocates and members of the public were present.
Lok Adalat gives marriage a second chance
Adding an emotional touch to the proceedings, a couple who had reached the verge of divorce reunited after reconciliation efforts at the Bantwal National Lok Adalat.
Following counselling and mediation by Senior Civil Judge Anil Prakash M P, the couple agreed to set aside their differences and continue their marital journey.
Advocates P Banushankar and P Jayaram Rai also extended their support in making the reconciliation possible.
The couple later exchanged garlands at the court, marking a new beginning and turning their legal dispute into a story of reconciliation.
