Udupi: St Cecily’s (CBSE) English School celebrates International Yoga Day

Udupi, Jun 22: St Cecily’s English Medium Higher Primary School (CBSE), Udupi observed International Yoga Day 2026 with a meaningful programme highlighting the importance of Yoga for physical, mental and emotional well-being.

As a precursor to the dedicated day of observation, a mass yoga event was held for students and faculty. An essay competition on yoga for health was conducted. Students grade 3 to 10 were encouraged to participate in ‘International Yoga Olympiad 2026’. Students, parents and teachers were encouraged to participate in a daily online free yoga session which was conducted by ‘Habuild’.

The enriching entertainment programme was hosted by students of grade 9 A to mark the International Yoga Day 2026. Commencing with a dedicated prayer invoking the blessings of the Almighty, the event progressed to an enchanting welcome dance creating a happy ambience in the auditorium.

Dhruva graciously welcomed the esteemed dignitaries - chief guest Devendra Shastry, an expert yoga practitioner and tutor, Vivekananda Yoga Vignana Kendra, Udupi, principal- Sr Lathika AC, school administrator- Sr Maria Roopa AC and vice principal- Sr Preethi Savitha AC.

After the formal welcome, the class emphasised the importance of yoga as a way of life through meaningful skit, songs and dances. Rithushri of grade 6 deftly demonstrated a few yoga asanas.

The chief guest, in his keynote address, motivated students to regard yoga not only as a physical exercise but also as a discipline for life. He emphasised that yoga as a gift of India to the world, must enrich our lives too. He reiterated that yoga keeps body and mind in synchrony, thereby relieving stress and enhances productivity.

The programme concluded with words of gratitude expressed by Tanvith M S, followed by the National Anthem.
