M'luru: Mount Carmel Central School holds parent orientation programme for grades I–IV

Mangaluru, Jun 10: As part of its commitment to fostering a strong partnership between parents and educators, Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru conducted the orientation programme for the parents of grades I and II on June 9 and of grades III and IV on June 10 in the school auditorium.

The programme for grades I and II commenced with a prayer, followed by a vibrant welcome dance by the students of Grade II. Teacher Jacqueline welcomed the gathering and introduced the resource person, Leeza Kiran Rodrigues, Tedx speaker, Mangaluru. In her keynote address on “Smart Parenting Skills,” she emphasised positive parenting, effective communication, emotional bonding, and the importance of leading by example.

Parents were subsequently briefed on the school guidelines, holistic progress card, periodic assessments, and the CBSE evaluation system. An interactive session enabled parents to seek clarifications and share concerns. The election of the parent–teacher executive committee (PTEC) members was also conducted. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by teacher Jenitha and was compered by teacher Sunitha.

The orientation programme for grades III and IV began with a prayer and a welcome dance by the students of grade III. Teacher Laveena delivered the welcome address and introduced the resource person, Dr Shalini Aiyappa, associate professor and head of the Department of Psychology at St. Aloysius (Deemed to be) University, Mangaluru. Principal Sr Melissa addressed the gathering, highlighting the vital role of parent–teacher collaboration in nurturing children.

A special highlight of the programme was the felicitation of Pragya of grade III for being the winner in the state-level Gichi Gili Gili reality show. She was honoured by the dignitaries in the presence of her parents.

In her keynote address on “Digital Parenting,” Dr Shalini Aiyappa spoke about the impact of excessive digital exposure and stressed the importance of mindful technology use by parents as role models. She also shared valuable insights on positive parenting, emotional well-being, and effective communication with children.

Parents were briefed on the academic guidelines, evaluation procedures, and assessment criteria for the year. The election of the parent–teacher executive committee (PTEC) representatives was subsequently conducted by the administrator Sr Carissima.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by teacher Ireal, followed by a feedback session for parents. The event was efficiently compered by Teacher Leena.

Both programmes proved informative and enriching, strengthening the bond between parents and the school while reaffirming their shared commitment to the holistic development and well-being of every child.
