Mumbai, Jun 8: Comedian Tanmay Bhat took a light-hearted dig at actor Varun Dhawan over his recent box office performance during a YouTube video, drawing laughs from both the audience and the actor himself.

Varun recently appeared on Tanmay Bhat’s YouTube channel alongside comedians Rohan Joshi, Piyush Sharma and Zakir Khan for a humorous discussion that quickly gained traction online.

During the conversation, Tanmay compared the massive success of Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar franchise with Varun’s upcoming film and joked about the actor’s promotional efforts.

“The amount of hard work you are putting in promoting the film is commendable because it takes some kind of optimism to work this hard to get one per cent of Dhurandhar's box office numbers,” Tanmay quipped.

Varun responded sportingly, saying that after the success of Dhurandhar, everyone in the industry felt pressured to deliver something significant themselves.

The Dhurandhar franchise, starring Ranveer Singh and directed by Aditya Dhar, has emerged as one of the biggest commercial successes in Indian cinema. The first film was released in December 2025, followed by its sequel in March 2026. The franchise has reportedly grossed more than ?3,000 crore worldwide.

The films also featured Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi in key roles.

Meanwhile, Varun was recently seen in Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, directed by his father David Dhawan. The romantic comedy, which also stars Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde, was released on June 5 and received mixed reviews from critics.

The film reportedly opened to a modest box office collection, making it one of the actor’s lower openings in recent years. Despite the slow start, Varun’s humorous response to Tanmay’s roast won praise from fans on social media, with many appreciating the actor’s ability to laugh at himself.
