Panaji, Jun 7: A leopard cub was found dead in North Goa district, prompting the state government to order a detailed inquiry into the incident.

According to forest department officials, local residents discovered the carcass of the leopard cub in the Bagatwada area of Palye village in Pernem taluka on Saturday night and alerted the authorities.

A team from the forest department reached the spot and sent the carcass for post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death.

State Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane said he has directed Kamal Datta to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

Officials said further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry and the autopsy report.
