Siolim, Jun 6: In a bizarre road incident on Friday morning, a goods rickshaw became lodged in a newly installed height barrier on the Ganeshpuri–Siolim–Marna road, causing temporary traffic disruption in the area.
The Public Works Department (PWD) recently erected the height barrier along the accident-prone stretch to prevent the movement of heavy and oversized vehicles. The structure has a maximum clearance limit of 2.5 metres.
The road is frequently used as a shortcut by motorists travelling between Mapusa and the coastal belt, including Siolim, Morjim and Harmal, making it a busy route throughout the day.

According to local sources, the goods rickshaw was travelling from Marna towards Mapusa when the driver, apparently unaware of the newly installed barrier, attempted to pass through it.
The vehicle crashed into the metal structure, leaving its front portion lifted and hanging off the ground after becoming wedged against the barrier. The unusual sight attracted the attention of passersby and commuters.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. However, the rickshaw sustained damage, and traffic movement was affected for some time as authorities worked to clear the obstruction.
A crane was later brought to the spot to remove the stranded vehicle and restore normal traffic flow on the road.
