Three dead, 15 injured in devastating bus crash near Raisen toll plaza

Bhopal, Jun 5: A tragic road accident in Madhya Pradesh's Raisen district claimed the lives of three people and left 15 others injured after two private passenger buses crashed head-on near the Sehatganj toll plaza on Friday, officials said.

The collision took place on the busy Bhopal–Raisen route under the jurisdiction of Umravganj police station. The buses involved were operated by Shakti Bus Service and Kalpana Travels.

The deceased have been identified as 28-year-old Nitesh Vyas from Panda Tekapar village in Sultanganj, 29-year-old Makhan Singh Lodhi from Pachipura in Begamganj, and 19-year-old Dipesh Ahirwar of Sultanganj. Their bodies were sent for post-mortem examination following the incident.

Authorities said the impact of the crash was extremely severe, causing multiple passengers to suffer serious injuries, including fractures and trauma to the head, face, and limbs. Emergency services rushed to the scene, deploying ten ambulances to transport victims to nearby hospitals.

Passengers in critical condition were shifted to Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal for advanced treatment, while several others were admitted to the District Hospital in Raisen and other nearby healthcare centres.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed sorrow over the accident and announced financial support for the families of those who lost their lives. In a message posted on X, he described the incident as deeply distressing and assured that all injured passengers would receive free medical treatment.

The Chief Minister also directed Minister of State Narendra Shivaji Patel to visit the accident site and supervise relief and rescue operations. He further announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh for each bereaved family and wished a speedy recovery to those undergoing treatment.

Senior district officials, including Raisen Collector Arun Kumar Vishwakarma and Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Gupta, reached the location soon after the accident and reviewed ongoing rescue efforts.

According to SP Gupta, preliminary reports had suggested a higher number of fatalities; however, subsequent verification confirmed three deaths and 15 injuries. Police have registered a case and initiated a detailed investigation.

Investigators are currently analysing CCTV footage from the toll plaza and recording statements from drivers, conductors, and passengers. Officials stated that all possible factors, including overspeeding, driver error, and mechanical malfunction, are being examined.

The district administration has informed the families of the victims and said necessary medical assistance and support are being extended to those injured in the crash.
