Ranchi, May 29: Ranchi Police have uncovered a cybercrime racket operating in the Gonda police station area and arrested five individuals in connection with the case, officials said on Friday.

Acting on a tip-off received on the night of May 28, police conducted a raid around 8 p.m. at a flat in Rock View Apartment near Chandni Chowk in Dhawan Nagar under Gonda police limits, where suspicious activities were reportedly underway.

The operation was carried out by a team led by the Sadar Deputy Superintendent of Police, along with the Gonda police station officer-in-charge and armed personnel.

During the raid, five persons were found inside the premises and taken into custody. A large cache of items suspected to be linked to cyber fraud was recovered from the location.

According to officials, the seized materials included 50 bank passbooks issued in different names, 26 debit cards, eight cheque books, 13 mobile phones, and three Aadhaar cards. All items have been confiscated for investigation.

Senior Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ranjan said a case has been registered under Case No. 68/26 at Gonda police station and further investigation is underway to uncover the wider network behind the operation.

Preliminary interrogation revealed that fake identity documents were allegedly used to open multiple bank accounts, which were then exploited for cyber fraud activities.

The accused also reportedly told police that the flat belonged to an individual known as “Nikhil Bhaiya,” who had brought them together and trained them in executing cybercrimes.

Those arrested have been identified as Kajal Kumar Mandal from Jamtara, Anand Kumar and Shakib Ansari from Ramgarh, Bikki Kumar from Bokaro, along with a minor from Ramgarh.

Police officials said efforts are now underway to trace other members of the gang and identify those who remain absconding.

The raiding team included Gonda SHO Abhay Kumar Sinha, sub-inspectors Sunny Kumar and Om Prakash Prasad, assistant sub-inspector Ramjanam Prasad, and armed police personnel.
