New Delhi, May 28: The Indian AI Research Organisation (IAIRO) has appointed veteran technologist and AvenuesAI Limited Chairman and Managing Director Vishal Mehta as its Technical Advisor, strengthening India’s push towards building independent and globally competitive artificial intelligence capabilities.
The announcement was made by IAIRO through its LinkedIn platform, describing Mehta as a technology leader with decades of experience in building and scaling digital infrastructure businesses in India.

According to the organisation, Mehta’s expertise in entrepreneurship, technology platforms and AI-driven innovation is expected to significantly contribute to IAIRO’s research and ecosystem initiatives.
Vishal Mehta is known for developing major digital platforms such as CCAvenue, Rediff and Phronetic.AI. Under his leadership, AvenuesAI Limited has grown into one of India’s leading fintech and software ecosystems, reportedly processing billions of transactions annually across millions of merchants.
IAIRO stated that its ecosystem includes globally recognised AI researchers, technologists from leading international universities and former professionals associated with companies such as Apple, Google and IBM.
The organisation’s focus areas include frontier AI research, enterprise AI systems, embodied intelligence, talent development and large-scale deployment across sectors including healthcare, pharmaceuticals, education, sustainability and urban systems.
Confirming the appointment, Vishal Mehta said IAIRO was not merely creating AI products but was working towards building a long-term institution for India’s technological future.
He stated that future AI leadership would depend on building ecosystems around research, infrastructure, talent and trusted deployment models.
Mehta now joins an advisory group that already includes prominent industry leaders such as HCL co-founder and Padma Bhushan awardee Ajai Chowdhry and iSPIRT Foundation’s Sharad Sharma.
Headquartered in Gujarat’s GIFT City, IAIRO functions as an autonomous Section 8 organisation aligned with India’s national AI mission.
According to company information, the organisation operates under a public-private partnership model backed by the IndiaAI Mission, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Gujarat Department of Science and Technology, and the Indian Pharma Association.
