Simdega, May 26: The Jharkhand Police have rescued a 22-year-old woman from Simdega district who was allegedly trafficked and sold for Rs 3 lac in Rajasthan, officials said on Tuesday.

According to police, the woman was taken from a village under Kurdeg police station limits in 2023 by a man who promised her a job in Delhi. She was later placed as a domestic worker through a placement agency in the national capital.

Police said she escaped within a few days and was later taken in by a couple she met near Anand Vihar bus stand in Delhi. The couple allegedly sold her for Rs 3 lac to a family in Barmer, near the India–Pakistan border in Rajasthan.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Ranvir Singh said the woman was subjected to repeated abuse during her captivity and even gave birth to a child while being held.

The victim later managed to contact her mother and narrated her ordeal, following which an FIR was registered at the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) police station in Simdega on May 20.

A special police team was formed based on the complaint, and the woman was rescued from Barmer and safely brought back to her hometown.
