Panaji, May 21: Goa minister Vishwajit Rane on Wednesday said that no government can afford to ignore the sentiments of Gen Z and stressed the need to frame policies in line with the aspirations of the younger generation.

Addressing a public function in Usgao village in North Goa, Rane called for filling around 22,000 vacant government posts in the state ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, saying the move would generate employment opportunities for youth.

The Goa Assembly elections are scheduled to be held next year.

Rane urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to speed up the recruitment process for vacant government positions, stating that creating employment opportunities for people, especially youngsters, should remain a top priority.

“We should fill the 22,000 government vacancies before the upcoming elections and give opportunities for government jobs to the people,” he said.

Highlighting changing social and political expectations, the minister said governments must remain sensitive to the mindset and concerns of Gen Z.

“No government can ignore the sentiments and feelings of Gen Z. We have to listen to them and adopt our policies accordingly,” Rane said.

He also praised the Narendra Modi-led central government, stating that it has consistently worked with a long-term vision for the country’s overall development.

Rane said several initiatives have been implemented in Goa’s healthcare sector under the Prime Minister’s leadership, benefiting people across the state.

He said programmes related to breast cancer screening and cervical cancer detection are being expanded, while free medicines worth nearly Rs 450 crore annually are being distributed through government healthcare facilities.

Emphasising inclusive development, Rane said the government aims to involve youth, women and senior citizens in the state’s progress while ensuring that welfare benefits reach every village.

He added that the broader objective is to improve livelihoods and ensure that development creates meaningful opportunities, including employment, for the people of Goa.
