New Delhi, May 21: Customs officials at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport seized 396 grams of smuggled gold concealed inside chocolate packets from two passengers arriving from Riyadh, officials said on Thursday.

According to the Customs Department, the passengers were intercepted at the green channel based on “spot profiling”.

Officials said both passengers were diverted for X-ray screening of their baggage after suspicion arose during checking.

During the scan, authorities noticed suspicious images inside chocolate packets carried by the passengers. The packets were then subjected to detailed examination.

Customs officials recovered gold in dust form concealed inside the chocolates. The seized gold weighed a total of 396 grams and was found to be of 999.9 purity.

The recovered quantity included separate consignments weighing 200 grams and 196 grams.

The gold was seized under provisions of the Customs Act, 1962, and both passengers were booked in connection with the smuggling attempt, officials added.
