Illegal liquor worth Rs 5.14 lac seized during vehicle check; Meerut man arrested

Deoria, May 20: Police seized illegal liquor worth around Rs 5.14 lakh from a pickup vehicle during a checking drive near the Mehrauna check-post under Laar police station limits on Wednesday and arrested one person in connection with the case.

According to police, the action was carried out following a tip-off received by the police team during routine vehicle inspections in the area.

Additional Superintendent of Police Anand Kumar Pandey said the pickup vehicle, which was allegedly heading towards Bihar, was intercepted by the police team near the border check-post.

During the search of the vehicle, police recovered 55 cartons of illegal liquor concealed inside the pickup vehicle. Officials said the seized liquor is estimated to be worth approximately Rs 5.14 lakh in the market.

Police also recovered a fake registration number plate from the vehicle during the inspection.

The arrested accused has been identified as Nishar Khan (32), a resident of Modipuram Pallavpuram Phase-II area in Meerut district.

A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Excise Act and other applicable laws. Further investigation is underway, police said.
