Kolkata, May 18: Police in Kolkata have arrested the son of Trinamool Congress MLA Dilip Mandal along with four others amid an ongoing investigation into alleged threats and unrest linked to the ruling party leader.
According to officials, Arghya Mandal was detained during a joint operation conducted by the Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police and Diamond Harbour district police near the Bakkhali-Fraserganj coastal area. Authorities said firearms were recovered during the operation, and the accused are being questioned regarding their alleged involvement in creating disturbances in the region.

Police stated that the arrests took place while security agencies continued searching for MLA Dilip Mandal, who is facing allegations related to threatening remarks allegedly made against opposition party workers and supporters.
The controversy erupted after a purported video of the MLA surfaced on social media, in which he was allegedly heard issuing intimidating comments. Following the circulation of the clip, a formal complaint was lodged, prompting police action.
Investigators subsequently conducted raids at multiple properties linked to the MLA in the Pailan area. Officials said Dilip Mandal was not present during the searches.
The raids also drew public attention after details of one of the MLA’s residences emerged. According to reports, the property features luxury amenities including a swimming pool, elaborate landscaping, decorative statues, fountains, and resort-style architecture, leading to questions over the source of the legislator’s wealth.
Police said investigations are ongoing to determine whether additional individuals were involved in the case and to examine the broader circumstances surrounding the allegations.
