Panaji, May 15: A 70-year-old woman died in a tragic lift accident in Margao, South Goa, on Friday, raising concerns over possible technical failure and safety lapses.

The deceased has been identified as Marcia Rosa Pacheco.

According to preliminary information, the woman allegedly opened the lift gate and stepped forward before the lift had actually arrived at the floor level.

Moments later, the lift reportedly descended suddenly, trapping her and causing severe injuries.

Locals and emergency responders rescued the woman from the spot and shifted her to the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) in Margao.

However, doctors declared her brought dead on arrival.

The incident has triggered questions regarding the functioning of the lift system, particularly how the lift door could have opened despite the elevator not being positioned at the designated floor.

Police and technical authorities are investigating whether the accident was caused by a mechanical malfunction or a lapse in safety mechanisms.
