Imphal, May 12: In a major counter-insurgency operation across Manipur, security forces apprehended eight militants linked to various banned extremist outfits, including two senior leaders, officials confirmed on Tuesday. A significant quantity of arms, ammunition, and other incriminating materials was also recovered during the operations.

Among those arrested were Vincent Pumjamang Taithul (40), who allegedly served as the self-styled Commander-in-Chief of the Zogam Liberation Front (ZLF), and Khumbongmayum Ananda Meitei alias Lamphel alias Ibomcha (53), identified as a self-styled advisor of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP).

The coordinated raids were carried out in several districts, including Churachandpur, Imphal West, Kakching, and Imphal East. Security personnel seized sophisticated weapons, a large stockpile of ammunition, mobile phones, and documents believed to be linked to militant activities.

Officials also confirmed the arrest of four cadres associated with the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and its political wing, the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF), from areas under the Lamlai police station in Imphal East district.

During the operation, security forces rescued three youths who were reportedly abducted and forcibly detained by the PLA/RPF members for recruitment into the outlawed group.

Authorities stated that intelligence-driven search and cordon operations are being intensified across the state to crack down on kidnapping, extortion, and other criminal activities linked to insurgent networks.

Joint teams of central and state security forces are continuing area domination exercises and search operations in vulnerable and mixed-population regions across both valley and hill districts of Manipur.

To strengthen surveillance and restrict the movement of unlawful elements, security agencies have established 114 checkpoints across the state. Escorts are also being provided to trucks and other vehicles transporting food supplies and essential commodities along the Imphal–Jiribam National Highway (NH-37).

Officials said heightened convoy protection and strict security measures remain in force along sensitive routes to ensure safe transportation.

Meanwhile, Manipur Police appealed to citizens not to fall for misinformation circulating on social media platforms. In an official statement, police warned that strict legal action would be taken against those found uploading or sharing fake videos, audio clips, or misleading posts online.
