Panaji, May 10: Goa Tourism Department has recorded a sharp rise in domestic tourist arrivals, with authorities now focusing on expanding the state’s image beyond beaches and nightlife through cultural, spiritual and hinterland tourism initiatives.
Officials said Goa witnessed record domestic footfall in recent months, driven by improved connectivity, tourism campaigns and growing interest in experiential travel.
The state government is now working towards diversifying tourism offerings by promoting heritage circuits, eco-tourism, wellness retreats, adventure tourism and village-based experiences.

Tourism authorities said efforts are being made to attract visitors throughout the year instead of limiting travel activity to peak holiday seasons.
According to officials, hinterland tourism projects are being developed to showcase Goa’s temples, churches, traditional villages, waterfalls, spice plantations and local cuisine.
The government is also promoting spiritual tourism and cultural festivals to encourage tourists to explore lesser-known parts of the state.
Officials stated that the strategy aims to reduce pressure on overcrowded beach destinations while creating economic opportunities in rural areas.
The tourism department has also intensified efforts towards sustainable tourism, including waste management initiatives, promotion of eco-friendly practices and regulation of overcrowded tourist spots.
Industry stakeholders said domestic travellers now account for a major share of Goa’s tourism economy, especially after strong recovery in travel demand over the past few years.
Authorities expressed confidence that the state’s shift towards diversified and sustainable tourism would strengthen Goa’s position as one of India’s leading travel destinations.
