New Delhi, May 7: The Indian government has launched JANANI, a QR-enabled digital healthcare platform designed to monitor and manage maternal and child health services across the country, according to an official statement released on Thursday.
The platform, officially named “Journey of Antenatal, Natal and Neonatal Integrated Care,” aims to create comprehensive digital health records for women throughout their reproductive years. It will track healthcare services including antenatal care, delivery preparation, childbirth, postnatal support, newborn care, home-based childcare, and family planning services.

Developed as an upgraded version of the existing Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) portal, JANANI creates a continuous longitudinal health record by documenting key healthcare events throughout the maternal and child care cycle.
Officials said the system is intended to improve continuous monitoring, support timely medical interventions, and strengthen healthcare delivery at every stage of pregnancy and childcare.
One of the platform’s major features is the introduction of QR-enabled digital Mother and Child Health cards, which allow medical records to remain portable and easily accessible across healthcare centres.
The platform also includes automated alerts for high-risk pregnancies, real-time monitoring dashboards for healthcare supervisors, and due-list generation systems that help track pending services and ensure timely intervention for beneficiaries.
JANANI has been integrated with national healthcare and nutrition platforms such as U-WIN and POSHAN Abhiyaan to enable smoother data sharing, improved coordination between welfare programmes, and comprehensive beneficiary monitoring.
The portal supports beneficiary registration through unique identifiers including ABHA, Aadhaar authentication through OTP or biometrics, and mobile numbers. It also offers pan-India search functionality, helping ensure continuity of healthcare for migrant populations while preventing duplication of records.
In addition, JANANI provides self-registration options through both web and mobile platforms, allowing beneficiaries to directly access and manage their healthcare information.
The platform assists citizens by scheduling and monitoring antenatal check-ups, immunisation timelines, and sending reminders to ensure that important health milestones are not missed. It also offers access to digital Mother and Child Health cards, information on nearby healthcare centres, expected delivery locations, nutritional guidance, and health education support.
According to government data, JANANI has already recorded over 1.34 crore beneficiary registrations, including more than 30 lakh registrations of pregnant women. The platform has also generated over 30 lakh digital Mother and Child Health cards and completed more than one lakh biometric verifications.
