Karauli, May 4: A 20-year-old veterinary sciences student has been arrested in Rajasthan’s Karauli for allegedly running an online work-from-home scam that cheated job seekers through fraudulent handwriting assignments, police said on Monday.
The accused, Anuj Meena, was apprehended following a complaint by a central Delhi resident who lost Rs 34,000 in the fraud.
According to police, victims were lured through social media platforms with offers of handwriting-based work-from-home jobs. Once contacted, they were asked to pay money under various pretexts such as registration fees, material charges, GST, and account verification.

Investigators said the fraudsters used psychological tactics to keep victims engaged, including claiming payment failures and demanding small “pending” amounts to extract more money.
An FIR was registered on April 29, and a special team traced the financial trail to a UPI account linked to Meena. Technical analysis of the social media account also revealed connections to mobile numbers associated with him, leading to his arrest during a raid on May 1.
During interrogation, Meena revealed that he was working with a co-accused, Ganesh Sharma, who allegedly introduced him to cyber fraud operations. Police said the duo created social media profiles and promoted advertisements targeting vulnerable job seekers.
While Sharma handled communication with victims, Meena allegedly provided bank accounts and SIM cards to receive and route the money.
Police said further investigation is underway to trace the co-accused and identify other victims linked to the racket.
