Peshawar, May 1: At least 13 terrorists were killed by Pakistani security forces along the Afghanistan border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the military’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Friday.

According to the ISPR, the operations were carried out on April 28 and 29 in Mohmand and North Waziristan districts, targeting militants belonging to Fitna-al-Khwarij, a term used by the state for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

In Mohmand district, security forces detected movement of a group attempting to infiltrate across the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Troops engaged the militants, killing eight of them.

In a separate operation in North Waziristan, another infiltration attempt was foiled, with five terrorists neutralised after an intense exchange of fire.

Security forces have launched sanitisation operations in the area to eliminate any remaining militants, the statement said.

The ISPR reiterated that the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign under “Azm-e-Istehkam,” approved under the National Action Plan, will continue with full force.

It also urged the Afghan Taliban authorities to prevent the use of Afghan territory for launching attacks into Pakistan.

The development comes amid a surge in militant violence in Pakistan, with reports indicating a sharp rise in terror incidents and fatalities in 2025, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
