Varanasi, Apr 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday accused opposition parties, including the Samajwadi Party and the Indian National Congress, of delaying the passage of the women’s reservation proposal in Parliament. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to ensuring its implementation, saying he would “leave no stone unturned” to secure adequate representation for women in legislatures.

The Prime Minister made these remarks while addressing a large public gathering in Varanasi. He began his speech by greeting several dignitaries, including Uttar Pradesh governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, BJP President Nitin Nabin, and other leaders present at the event.

Highlighting the spiritual significance of Kashi, Modi described the city as blessed by divine figures such as Maa Ganga, Maa Annapurna, Maa Vishalakshi, and Maa Shringar Gauri. He said the large presence of women at the event made the occasion even more meaningful and extended his greetings to all mothers, sisters, and daughters.

Focusing on development initiatives, the Prime Minister noted improvements in connectivity between Kashi and Ayodhya, including the launch of two Amrit Bharat trains aimed at enhancing rail travel and accessibility for passengers from across India.

He stressed that women’s empowerment, or “Nari Shakti,” is central to building a developed India, stating that strengthening women strengthens families, society, and the nation as a whole. He also sought blessings from the gathering, referring to his broader national goals, including the implementation of women’s reservation in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

Reiterating his criticism, Modi alleged that political opposition had stalled progress on the women’s reservation bill in the past. However, he assured that his government remains firmly committed to ensuring its passage and implementation.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth around Rs 6,350 crore in Varanasi, aimed at improving infrastructure, connectivity, and public services in the region.
