Washington, Apr 27: Fresh details have emerged about the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, with investigators confirming that the accused had outlined plans to target members of the US administration in a manifesto sent shortly before the attack.
The suspect, a 31-year-old teacher from California, allegedly emailed the document to family members minutes before breaching security at the venue, where over 2,500 guests—including senior government officials—had gathered.
US President Donald Trump, speaking in an interview with 60 Minutes, said he had reviewed the manifesto and described the attacker as “radicalized” and mentally unstable. According to excerpts, the document explicitly referred to administration officials as “targets,” raising concerns about the intent behind the attack.

Authorities believe the writings also reflected a shifting ideological mindset. Trump noted that the suspect had undergone significant changes in beliefs over time and that family members had previously raised concerns about his behaviour, even alerting authorities.
Investigators further revealed that the attacker appeared to have studied the venue’s security arrangements in advance. In the manifesto, he reportedly claimed to have “cased the place” and pointed out what he perceived as security vulnerabilities.
Despite the breach, Trump praised the swift response by the United States Secret Service, noting that the suspect was quickly subdued. Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as gunfire rang out, prompting guests to take cover.
No casualties were reported, and officials confirmed that all attendees, including the president and other dignitaries, were safely evacuated.
The suspect’s writings also included political grievances and references to protest movements, which authorities are examining as part of the ongoing investigation into the motive behind the attack.
