FIR filed over illegal mineral extraction in Betul, Rs 12 lac loss to govt

Margao, Apr 25: Cuncolim Police have registered an FIR against unidentified persons for allegedly carrying out illegal extraction of minerals from agricultural and other land in Naquerim, Betul, resulting in a loss of around Rs 12 lakh to the state government.

According to police sources, prior to July 2024, the accused illegally excavated and extracted minerals from multiple survey numbers in Naquerim without obtaining the required licence or permit from the competent authority. The extracted material was later transported to unknown locations.

The accused are suspected to have committed theft of government resources for personal gain.

A case has been registered at Cuncolim police station under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Rules 3, 38 and 73(1) of the Goa Daman and Diu Minor Minerals Concession Rules.

Further investigation is in progress.
