Cherthala, Apr 18: Two persons have been arrested in Kerala’s Alappuzha district for allegedly circulating a controversial Vishu promotional poster of a restaurant that depicted a young Lord Krishna seated in front of a serving of ‘kuzhi manthi’, police said on Friday.

Police said the accused shared the poster on WhatsApp with intent to hurt religious sentiments, following which they were booked under Section 192 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot. Their arrests have been recorded.

According to the FIR, the circulation of the image led to tensions after reports emerged of a planned protest march by a Hindu organisation towards the restaurant located in Cherthala. Police have since stepped up precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, the restaurant owner issued a public apology, stating that the poster was created by a third-party designer
