New Delhi, Apr 14: The government highlighted how digital innovation is reshaping nutrition programmes, with tools like the Poshan Tracker Application enabling near real-time tracking of more than 14 lakh Anganwadi Centres and close to 9 crore beneficiaries across the country.
Marking eight years of POSHAN Abhiyaan, officials noted that its Jan Andolan (people’s movement) strategy has successfully mobilised communities nationwide. Campaigns such as Poshan Maah and Poshan Pakhwada have collectively driven over 150 crore public engagement activities.

The mission reflects a growing focus on integrating technology, improving governance, and encouraging community participation to tackle nutrition challenges effectively. Authorities emphasised that collaboration across sectors, better service delivery, and sustained behavioural change are essential to achieving long-term improvements in nutritional outcomes.
With its evolution into Mission Poshan 2.0, the initiative has sharpened its focus on enhancing service quality, expanding early childhood care, and strengthening last-mile delivery systems. The programme now takes a holistic approach by linking nutrition with healthcare, education, and community involvement, especially for vulnerable groups.
Launched in 2018, POSHAN Abhiyaan marked a significant shift in India’s policy approach—moving nutrition from a welfare concern to a key pillar of national development, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. It unified efforts across more than 26 ministries, recognising the interconnected roles of sanitation, education, water access, women’s empowerment, and income in improving nutrition.
A key feature of the mission is its lifecycle-based, preventive strategy, with special emphasis on the first 1,000 days—from conception to a child’s second birthday—considered critical for physical growth, brain development, and long-term health.
Additionally, initiatives like Poshan Vatikas are being promoted at Anganwadi Centres, schools, and Gram Panchayat lands. These nutri-gardens aim to improve access to fresh fruits, vegetables, and medicinal plants, encouraging dietary diversity through locally available and affordable food sources.
