Mandi, Apr 13: A 19-year-old student was brutally killed in broad daylight while on her way to college in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district on Monday, triggering panic in the region.

The incident occurred around 9.15 am in the Sarkaghat area, where the victim was allegedly attacked in the middle of the road. Police said the assailants beheaded the student before fleeing the spot.

Police teams from Sarkaghat rushed to the scene soon after receiving information and took custody of the body. Senior officers, including Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar, also reached the spot to oversee the investigation.

While the motive behind the killing remains unclear, initial reports suggest that two unidentified bike-borne men may be involved. Police said the exact sequence of events will be established after the accused are identified and arrested.

Authorities have formed multiple teams to trace the attackers and are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas as part of the probe.

Assuring swift action, SP Vinod Kumar said the case is under active investigation and the culprits will be apprehended soon.

The shocking incident has left residents in fear, with many expressing concern over the brazen nature of the crime.
