New Delhi, Apr 8: The Congress party on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of using inappropriate and disrespectful language against its top leadership. The party also condemned the police action involving its spokesperson Pawan Khera.
Congress MP Pramod Tiwari criticised the chief minister’s remarks, stating that the tone and language used against party president Mallikarjun Kharge, along with leaders like Rahul Gandhi, were unbecoming of someone in public office. He described the comments as unacceptable and not in line with civil discourse.

Tiwari also objected to the police action related to Khera, alleging that the manner in which authorities approached the matter was excessive. He defended Khera’s statements, saying they were based on available records and did not warrant such a response.
The controversy began after Sarma, speaking to reporters in Jorhat, made strong remarks targeting Kharge and other Congress leaders. His comments, including personal jibes, triggered backlash from the opposition.
Sarma further questioned the Congress leadership and issued a warning suggesting that legal action could be taken against Khera over allegations linked to claims about his family. He also hinted that the issue might extend to Rahul Gandhi, suggesting that the documents cited by Khera could have originated from him.
The exchange has intensified tensions between the Congress and the BJP, especially with the political atmosphere already charged ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. Congress leaders have labelled the Chief Minister’s statements as derogatory and unacceptable, further deepening the ongoing political confrontation.
