Imphal, Apr 7: Two young children were killed and their mother injured after a suspected militant attack targeted a civilian house in Bishnupur district of Manipur in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to officials, the incident took place around 1 am in the Moirang Tronglaobi area, where an explosive device was hurled at a residence while the family was asleep.

The blast claimed the lives of a five-year-old boy and a six-month-old infant girl. Their mother, who sustained injuries in the attack, was rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Moirang Tronglaobi, located near the hill districts of Churachandpur, has witnessed intermittent violence since ethnic tensions escalated in 2023 and continued through 2024.

Condemning the incident, BJP MLA Th. Shanti Singh termed it a “heinous act” and called for strict action against those responsible.

Alleging involvement of Kuki militant groups, he said attacks on civilians were unacceptable and must be dealt with firmly. He also expressed condolences to the bereaved family, describing the killing of children as an inhuman act.

Security forces have intensified operations in the area, and an investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those behind the attack.
