Barpeta, Apr 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed confidence in a third consecutive victory for the BJP-led NDA in Assam, while launching a sharp attack on the Indian National Congress during a public rally in Barpeta.
Addressing a large gathering, Modi said two outcomes were certain in the upcoming elections — a “hat-trick” win for the NDA and what he described as a “record century of defeats” for Congress leaders, in an apparent reference to Rahul Gandhi.
“The people of Assam have decided that there will be a hat-trick of the BJP-NDA government. At the same time, the tally of defeats for the ‘naamdar’ sitting in Delhi will reach a century,” Modi said.

Highlighting his government’s performance, the Prime Minister said the past decade had brought peace and development to Assam, and the coming years would push the state towards self-reliance.
Modi also extended greetings on the foundation day of the Bharatiya Janata Party, reaffirming the party’s commitment to nation-building. “With the mantra of ‘Nation First’, we are working to make India a developed and self-reliant nation,” he said.
Launching a scathing attack on the Congress, Modi alleged that the party has been reduced to a few states and fails to present its performance before the public. In contrast, he said, the BJP consistently engages with citizens and highlights its governance record.
He further accused the Congress of undermining the armed forces and alleged that its statements often align with narratives from Pakistan, claiming such positions have harmed national interests.
The remarks come amid intensified campaigning ahead of the Assam assembly elections.
