Leander Paes joins BJP ahead of West Bengal polls

New Delhi, Mar 31: Indian tennis legend Leander Paes on Tuesday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), marking his entry into active politics ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections.

Paes joined the party in the presence of Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju at a formal induction event.

His political debut comes at a crucial time, with West Bengal gearing up for Assembly elections scheduled in two phases on April 23 and April 29.

With this move, the former Grand Slam champion becomes the latest sportsperson to step into the political arena ahead of high-stakes state elections.
