Mumbai, Mar 31: The Reserve Bank of India has imposed a penalty of around Rs 32 lakh on Airtel Payments Bank for non-compliance with regulatory norms.
The central bank said it conducted a statutory inspection of the bank for supervisory evaluation with reference to its financial position as of March 31, 2025.
Based on the findings, the RBI issued a notice to the bank over non-compliance with its directions. After reviewing the bank’s response and additional submissions, the regulator concluded that the charge related to non-disclosure of certain complaints in its annual financial statements for the financial year 2024-25 was sustained.

Accordingly, the RBI said the lapse warranted the imposition of a monetary penalty.
The central bank clarified that the action was based on deficiencies in regulatory compliance and does not question the validity of any transaction or agreement entered into by the bank with its customers.
