No proposal for lockdown in India, clarifies minister Hardeep Puri

New Delhi, Mar 27: Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri on Friday dismissed rumours of a Covid-19-like nationwide lockdown, stating that no such proposal is under consideration by the Centre.

Amid growing concerns linked to the ongoing Middle East crisis, the minister clarified that reports suggesting a possible lockdown are “completely false.”

“Rumours of a lockdown in India are completely false. Let me state this clearly, there is no such proposal under consideration by the Government of India. In such times, it is important that we remain calm, responsible, and united,” Puri said in a post on X.

The clarification comes as speculation circulated on social media regarding potential restrictions similar to those imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Officials have urged the public not to spread misinformation and to rely only on verified sources for updates.
