At least 10 killed in head-on collision in Chhindwara; CM Yadav announces compensation

Madhya Pradesh, Mar 27: At least 10 people, including a child, lost their lives and 31 others sustained injuries in a head-on collision between a pick-up vehicle and a bus near Simaria on Nagpur Road on Thursday evening. The bus was returning from a public function attended by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.

According to officials, six men, three women, and a child were killed in the accident. The Chhindwara Collector, Harendra Narayan, clarified that the fatalities include eight passengers of the bus and the driver and cleaner of the pick-up vehicle. Among the injured, 3–4 are reported to be in a critical condition, with one person transferred to a hospital in Nagpur, Maharashtra, for advanced treatment.

CM Yadav expressed grief over the tragedy and announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each for the families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh for the injured. He also assured free treatment for all those injured. In his condolence message on X, he prayed for peace for the departed souls and a speedy recovery for the injured.

The accident occurred after the bus was returning from a function at Chhindwara city’s police ground, where CM Yadav had inaugurated 105 projects and laid the foundation stones for several others. Superintendent of Police Ajay Pandey confirmed the location of the mishap, while SHO Ashish Kumar stated that the bus had over 40 passengers at the time of the collision.

CM Yadav has directed teams of doctors from Jabalpur and Nagpur to assist in the treatment of the injured and instructed Chhindwara’s guardian minister, Rakesh Singh, to rush to the district.
