Adani in talks with Meta, Google for data centre partnerships amid $100 bn digital push

Daijiworld Media Network – New Delhi

New Delhi, Mar 26: Indian billionaire Gautam Adani is in discussions with global technology giants including Meta Platforms and Google to forge partnerships in his rapidly expanding data centre business, sources familiar with the matter said.

E-commerce major Flipkart, owned by Walmart, is also engaged in talks with the Adani Group, which is scouting locations across various Indian states for setting up large-scale facilities.

The move is part of Adani’s ambitious $100 billion digital infrastructure push aimed at positioning the group as a key provider of land and renewable energy for hyperscale data centres—critical for artificial intelligence and cloud computing services.

While specific sites are yet to be finalised, the discussions are still at a preliminary stage. However, the development highlights growing competition in India’s digital infrastructure space.

India’s expanding economy and vast land availability have made it an attractive destination for global investors looking to build data centres. According to estimates by KPMG, the country’s data centre capacity is expected to grow fivefold to over 8 gigawatts by 2030, with investments exceeding $30 billion.

Adani’s joint venture AdaniConnex, formed with EdgeConneX, had earlier partnered with Google for a major AI infrastructure project in Visakhapatnam. The current discussions signal a fresh phase of expansion beyond existing commitments.

Meanwhile, competition is intensifying with other major players stepping up investments. Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries has announced large-scale data centre plans, while Amazon is set to invest billions in cloud infrastructure in India.

Artificial intelligence firm OpenAI is also exploring the establishment of a major data centre in the region, underlining India’s emergence as a global hub in the digital infrastructure race.
