Rahul Gandhi claims India’s foreign policy compromised under PM Modi

New Delhi, Mar 24: Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday launched a sharp critique of Narendra Modi, alleging that India’s foreign policy has become “compromised” and driven by personal considerations rather than the national interest.

Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Gandhi accused the Prime Minister of turning the country’s foreign policy into his own “personal foreign policy,” weakening India’s global perception. He claimed that international leaders, including US President Donald Trump, understand the limitations of Modi’s decision-making.

“If the Prime Minister is compromised, then our foreign policy is also compromised. It is obvious, and everyone can see that,” Gandhi said.

Targeting recent international engagements, he alleged that the government had failed to present a coherent stance in Parliament. Gandhi described Modi’s parliamentary speech as “irrelevant” and lacking clarity, warning that such policies would have direct repercussions for the public, particularly in terms of rising prices of essential commodities like LPG, petrol, and fertilisers.

Criticising the handling of the pandemic, Gandhi referred to the Prime Minister’s remarks about a potential “Covid-like” scenario, asserting that the government has forgotten the lessons of the previous crisis.

Regarding an all-party meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Gandhi stated he would not attend due to prior commitments in Kerala, but he welcomed the initiative for broader consultation.

In a strongly worded statement, Gandhi claimed that Modi’s decisions are influenced by foreign powers, specifically the United States and Israel. “I can give it to you in writing — PM Modi will do whatever the United States and Israel ask him to. He can never make decisions in India’s interest,” he said, adding that such influence undermines the welfare of farmers and other citizens.

He reiterated his criticism on social media platform X, writing: “The country’s foreign policy is compromised today because the Prime Minister himself is compromised. Modi only does what the United States and Israel want him to do. He can never make decisions in India’s interest — and this is clearly visible.”
