Assam declares Apr 9 holiday for Assembly polls

Guwahati, Mar 24: The Assam Government has declared a public holiday on April 9 in view of the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled on the same day.

According to a notification issued by the General Administration Department under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, all government and non-government offices, urban local bodies, educational institutions, and commercial establishments, including banks, will remain closed.

A separate notification from the Labour Welfare Department stated that April 9 will be observed as a paid holiday in factories, tea plantations, shops, and public entertainment establishments.

Polling for the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly will take place on April 9, while counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.
