Kochi, Mar 22: Congress leader K C Venugopal on Sunday alleged a nexus between the CPI(M) and the BJP in the ongoing election, asserting that such an understanding would not succeed in Kerala.
Addressing a press conference, the AICC leader claimed that the CPI(M)-BJP “relationship” was not new in the state and that both parties were attempting a political arrangement as public sentiment turns against the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF).

Venugopal pointed to issues such as the Lavalin case and the pace of investigations by central agencies, alleging that there were visible signs of coordination between the two parties. He also claimed that similarities in candidate selections indicated a possible deal to benefit each other electorally.
Despite these allegations, he expressed confidence that party workers and voters would reject such an arrangement, noting that similar attempts in the past had been exposed.
Highlighting the Congress-led UDF’s promises, Venugopal reiterated that free travel for women in Kerala State Road Transport Corporation buses would be implemented if the alliance comes to power. He said the move would significantly benefit women working in sectors such as coir, cashew, fishing, handloom and those under rural employment schemes.
He dismissed concerns over the financial burden of the scheme, stating that similar initiatives have been successfully implemented in other states and that KSRTC would be provided adequate financial support.
Venugopal also criticised the LDF government for not fulfilling its earlier promise of raising welfare pensions to Rs 2,500, alleging that it was increased only to Rs 2,000 ahead of the 2025 local body polls. He said the UDF would raise the pension to Rs 3,000 if voted to power.
He further announced that the party would soon release a detailed manifesto outlining its governance plans, including a healthcare insurance scheme on the lines of models implemented in other states.
Expressing optimism, Venugopal said the UDF is confident of securing 100 seats in the upcoming election.
